Purpose

Skyline Baptist Church exists to love God, love others and to serve our community and the world.

This one, simple statement reflects both the purpose and the mission of Skyline Baptist Church.  We recognize that a local church is the people making up the congregation and not the church property.  The church is a living organism rather than a legal organization.  As a living, vibrant group of believers, how we relate to God, to each other within the church and to those outside our congregation must reflect the change that God has made in each one of us.

Our statement above is not unique to us, as it is taken directly from Jesus' answer to the question posed to Him in Matthew 22:36: "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?"  Jesus gave a two-for-one answer when He said, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the great and foremost commandment.  The second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'" (Matthew 22:37-39, NASB)

If we truly love God with everything we are and love our neighbor as ourselves, it will motivate us to serve them.  The greatest service we can give is to introduce others to the love and forgiveness that is found only in Jesus Christ.
